What's In My Bag | Travel Edition

What's in my bag blog posts are one of my all time favourite posts to read.  I think it's probably because I'm a little bit nosy and love to find out what people are carrying around with them.  As a result, I thought I would give you lovely people a bit of an insight into what is in my bag (minus the mountains of hairbands, receipts and coins swimming around) but with a bit of a twist.  This week I am going to visit my friend who lives in Newcastle.  This is a five hour journey on the train for me so I thought I would show you what I will be carrying in my bag for this journey. I've tried to keep it super simple with just the essentials as I wont want to be lugging a super heavy back pack around (on top of my suitcase) when I am having to get multiple trains and tubes.  I hope you enjoy finding out what I will be taking in my bag.

19 Goals For 19

As I spoke about in one of my previous blog posts, this week I turned 19.  I love to use birthdays and the fact you're a year older and a year wiser as a fresh start - a chance to improve on the previous year.  Therefore, I love setting myself some goals on what I want to achieve in the next year.  I thought I would document this on my blog so I can look back in a years time, on my 20th birthday, and see if I really have achieved what I want to.  So wish me luck on my mission to complete these 19 goals over the next year - I truly hope I do.

Being Eighteen

This week I am turning 19 and I can't quite believe how fast this past year has gone.  This year has been absolutely crazy with so many massive ups and downs but I can honestly say it has been the best year of my life.  I am feeling pretty sad that it is time for me to wave goodbye to being a free 18 year old but I'm also super excited for what my 19th year on this planet will bring.  As I am such a nostalgic person, I thought I would write a blog post today on all the things that have happened in my first year of being an adult so I can always look back and reminisce on this amazing year.

100 Movies I Have Watched And Loved

Happy Friday!  It's the weekend!  I love weekends because it means I have a bit of free time to do whatever I please.  In my spare time I don't tend to watch much TV, except from perhaps my guilty pleasure reality programmes.  Side note, whose loving Love Island? I'm embarrassingly obsessed.  Instead, I'm more of a film fanatic and love using my free time to discover new films.  As It's the weekend and hopefully you have a spare few hours to pop on a film too, I thought I would write a different kind of blogpost today and recommend 100 movies that I have watched and loved in the hope that you will discover a new movie that you love also.  (Just a disclaimer - I'm a chick flick and comedy kind of gal so if you're looking for horror recommendations then this is not the post for you).

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation Review

As a student, high end make up only features in my life in dream form.  The majority of my make up collection is made up of affordable drugstore products.  I mean, I can't really justify spending my last £40 on a new eyeshadow palette when I haven't bought anything for my dinner yet.  However, we are all allowed a guilty pleasure, right?  Right!  And my make up guilty pleasure that I cannot live without is my Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation.  I first discovered this foundation during sixth form when I didn't have so many adult responsibilities and could spend all of my last money that I made from my Saturday job on makeup (made worse by the fact I worked in a Boots). I tried and tested a few high end foundations but if I'm honest I didn't really see the hype.  Until I purchased this one...and my gosh, did I see the hype!!!

Motivational Monday | Good Thoughts

Happy Monday lovelies!  I know I shouldn't copy and jump on this 'Motivational Monday' bandwagon but I just think the idea is brilliant.  I absolutely LOVE a good motivational quote that I find relatable and what better day to do it on than a Monday when everyone is all feeling a bit down in the dumps because it's back to work or school or Uni.  We all need someone to shine some good thoughts towards us on a Monday morning!

Staying Healthy at University

Going to University is all fun and games until you realise you've put on about 5 stone, you can no longer walk up a flight of stairs without getting breathless, your skin is feeling horrible and the dreaded freshers flu is still lingering 2 months on.  Your mum is no longer around to cook you healthy meals every day or nag at you to go out and get some fresh air so in the words of Paddy McGuinness, the power is now in your hands. This new found responsibility of looking after yourself can become extremely overwhelming and it's not uncommon to find yourself staying in bed all day after a night out, only leaving to grab a £2.99 pizza from the Tesco next door which you can shove in the oven and get back to bed as soon as possible.  Even if we don't want to admit it, we all know really that this kind of lifestyle does not make for a healthy body or a healthy mind.  It is so important to look after your physical and mental health whilst at University so here are my tips for staying healthy (ish) at University.

My Everyday Makeup Routine

I think most girls at some point or another have had a bit of a makeup crises and have started questioning whether they're doing their glittery eyeshadow right or whether their bright pink lipstick really suits them.  Don't worry, I've been there to.  But I believe that doing your make-up all comes down to trial and error and over the years I have had many trials and made many errors which have all helped me to find an everyday makeup routine that suits me.  Now, I am no makeup artist nor do I claim to be one but I thought I would let you in on the makeup I use on a daily basis that is quick and easy for me.

10 Things That Have Made Me Happy Recently

Do you ever have those weeks where literally nothing goes right? That is the exact explanation of my week.  From the moment I woke up each day, little things would be going wrong and they all built up to the main climax - my house got broken in to and my TV got stolen.  No lie.  So yeah, as you can imagine it has been particularly difficult maintaining my usual positive self this week.  Which is why I thought I would do this blog post today.  Sometimes when everything is going wrong and you think it is impossible to be happy, it is important to remind yourself that life isn't completely terrible and there are little rays of sunshine in your life (even if they are currently covered by clouds).

Revolution Redemption Eyeshadow Palettes

One of the daily struggles of being a student is wanting to go on a massive make-up shopping spree but also being restricted by my empty purse which can just about stretch for a pot noodle.  As a result, I now have to tear my eyes away from my beloved Estee Lauder and Benefit stands and focus on some much cheaper brands.  Revolution is a brand that is notoriously known for it's cheap make-up and since discovering this brand I have loved trying out their bronzers, highlighters and eyeshadow palettes.  In particular I have loved trying their Redemption eyeshadow palettes so thought it was about time that I discuss whether they are worth the money (all £4 of it) .

Redemption Palette Iconic 3
My favourite Redemption palette is definitely the Iconic 3 palette.  Although the quality is not as good as my beloved Naked 3 palette, it is certainly a good dupe considering it is only £4.  The mattes aren't very pigmented and a couple of the shimmers are a bit too powdery but all the colours are absolutely beautiful.  Over time it has certainly become one of my 'go to' palettes when I'm feeling a pink lid.
Redemption Palette Essential Shimmers
My second favourite redemption palette is the essential shimmers palette.  I am 100% more of a shimmer kind of girl than a matte kind of girl so a palette consisting of only shimmers is right up my street.  I think all of the colours are quite pigmented and not too powdery so in terms of quality is probably better than the first palette.  My only issue with this one is that the first few light shades are all very similar and a bit boring which is disappointing considering the lighter shades in a palette are usually my favourite.  However, the rest of the palette is great and the darker shades are all gorgeous.

Redemption Palette Iconic 2
My least favourite redemption palette that I own is the Iconic 2 palette.  The main reason why I don't like it as much as the others is because silver eyeshadow does not suit me in any shape or form so is a no-go for me.  The matte shades in this palette are also not very pigmented and very difficult to blend.  Equally, I'm definitely not a fan of the black - neither is my swatching apparently.  Yet, I still use this palette for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th golden shades which I cannot fault.  Although not my favourite palette, it is still so amazing for only £4 and would definitely be loved by someone who suits silver eyeshadow.
Revolution, you did gooooood.

The Year of Self-Confidence

July is my birthday month which tends to make me feel more reflective than usual as yet another year has gone by.  This past year has been one of the biggest and craziest years of my life and only now, whilst I am taking time to reflect, have I realised how much my self-confidence has grown and how comfortable I now feel in my own skin.  Perhaps it's just because I have matured quite a lot in the last year, or because I'm surrounded by people who I know will accept me for who I am or maybe it's just because I've finally learnt to love the body I was given.  Whatever the reason, I feel incredibly proud and uplifted that I now feel confident enough to do things that I would never have done two years ago.
